Why Your Marketing Might Be Falling Flat - and how to fix it

Marketing is one of those areas where you can invest money and effort but still feel unsatisfied with the outcome. Below, I’ve outlined some ways to take a more strategic approach that will help your marketing feel more intentional, effective, and aligned with your brand.

A strong brand is built on consistency between messaging (your brand voice) and visuals (how you present yourself). When these don’t align, your audience feels disconnected, and your marketing loses impact.

How to Fix It

1️⃣ Define Your Brand Personality – Is your brand friendly and casual, or polished and professional? Your voice and visuals should reflect that. A playful, handwritten logo won’t match stiff, corporate messaging.

2️⃣ Keep It Consistent – If your social media captions are fun and relaxed, but your website sounds overly corporate, your audience will be confused. Imagine a brand like Title Nine- a clothing brand known for using photos in their catalog and website of real, athletic, female models wearing their apparel while hiking, climbing, surfing, etc. and including quirky quotes or profiles of each model, suddenly using stock scenery photos and business-y language—it wouldn’t feel right.

3️⃣ Look at the Big Picture – Every piece of marketing—from your logo to your emails—should feel like part of the same brand story. I’m sure you can quickly picture in your head Apple’s sleek, simple, seamless experience when shopping for their products online or in store.

How to Find Your Voice

Ask yourself:
• Who is my ideal customer, and how do they talk?
• Do I want my brand to sound professional, conversational, bold, or playful?
• How can I make my messaging feel natural and consistent across platforms?

Your visuals should support your voice. If your brand is sleek and modern, your colors, fonts, and imagery should reflect that. If it’s warm and personal, choose inviting colors and a conversational tone. Once you define your voice and visuals, stick with them! Your audience should feel like they’re hearing from (and seeing) the same brand every time they engage with you.
