Studio Notes Issue 3: Spring Cleaning 101 - tackling your website

Hi Subscriber!

Has Spring sprung for you? For me, it’s the first pop of crocuses (croci?) while I’m out for a walk… and then hoping that they will escape getting covered with snow🤞. While you’re opening the windows, and thinking about/avoiding spring cleaning, it’s also a great time to do some tidying up of your business practices. Why not clear the cobwebs 🧹from your 🕸️ website?!

Ok, so don’t get rid of ALL the glitter, but just tidy it!

Website Spring Cleaning 101

Your website is often the first impression potential clients or customers have of your business, so ensuring it's in top shape is crucial. Is it the best representation of your business? Is it serving your clients well? Is it easy to navigate?

If this “clean-up” sounds like a stressful and less-than-fun undertaking, I’ll give you a few starter steps to get the momentum going…

  • Check your links: Do you have any dead ends- Are all your links linked to the right place - or any place? It’s a giant peeve of mine when I click a link for more information, etc., and I get a “page not found” instead. don’t do this to your website visitors! Check your links!

  • Check your visuals: Are your images high quality, crisp, and on brand? High-quality images convey professionalism, so be sure to review your imagery regularly to ensure it aligns with your brand's messaging and evokes the desired emotions from your audience.

  • Forms tune-ups: If you have forms on your site - is the information that your clients enter getting into the right hands? Check the email connections or newsletter forms to make sure they are connecting the correct automations, and that the intended team member is getting messages.

  • CTAs: Do you have clear calls to action? After a visitor reads something on your site, what do you want them to do next to engage with you further? Make sure your navigation and calls to action lead them on that path.

  • Device Responsiveness: Is your website working on all devices and platforms? View your site on a mobile device, and if it doesn't look the way it should… that's what your visitors are seeing too.

What’s New in the Studio

Self-Publishing Successes: As part of a partnership with Creative License Publishing (CLP), founded by my talented friend Celeste Chin, we have helped several authors, representing various genres, on their journey from creative spark to publication. Celeste and her team handle all things writing: initial reads and outlines, ghostwriting, editing, and other services to assist the writer. My part comes in when it’s time to design the book interior, cover, e-book, and upload to various selling platforms for publication. CLP has a particular passion for helping people craft their memoirs, and we have enjoyed working with our memoir authors and following their successes. I’m happy to announce that we have launched a workbook called How to Write a “Must-Read” Memoir. Celeste is the brains behind the lessons and step-by-step guidelines, and I created the format of the workbook with a user-friendly design. If you or anyone you know would be interested, it’s now available on Amazon and other platforms, so please take a look! I hope to create additional workbooks for CLP.

Happy Spring!
